I'd also like to congratulate and thank outgoing President, Keith Finkle (pictured on the right), for all the hard work and dedication he's shown to the club over the years. It's amazing to see how far this club has come, and I can't wait to see how far we can take it in the future. On that note, allow me to formally introduce you to some of the changing leadership. After spending the past year as Vice President, I (Walter Tillman, pictured on the left) will be taking over the Presidency. It's an honor to be taking over such a proud and robust organization and I'll do my best to continue our fine legacy and tradition. As the summer unfolds I'll let you guys know some of the plans I have, but please let me know if there's anything you think we can be doing better. This isn't the Walter Tillman Association, it's the Student Veterans Association, so it's important to keep an open dialog and ensure that we're representing and looking out for your interests. I'll be working closely with the other campuses, community colleges, state schools, and private colleges to ensure that Arizona is THE destination for our nations veterans.
Additionally, Hillary Ceja (pictured in the center), after her tremendous work as community service chair this past year, will be moving into the Vice Presidency. Her job will be to make sure that our various projects are being completed in a timely manner and that I have the most up to date information when I'm meeting with lawmakers, the administration, or local business leaders. Joe Capel will be taking over our social media outlets to make sure you guys get the most up to date information about what's going on in the Veteran community without flooding your inbox with too many emails. Jenna Rohr and Fabian will be continuing on in their roles as our webmaster, and financial guru, respectively. Kyle Irwin will be taking on Hillary's old position as Community Service Chair in addition to his current duties as Social Chair. If you guys want to see an event done or just want to get together with a few Veterans this summer, reach out to him and we'll set something up.
Finally, with Hillary's promotion there's going to be a board position opening up this fall. If you'd like to get more active in the club I strongly encourage you to think about running for the board. It's a great opportunity to shape the direction of the organization and help out the Veteran community, and it's a great experience to have under your belt for when you start applying for jobs or Grad school. We haven't quite formalized our strategy yet but we'll definitely be needing someone to work on wellness issues to ensure that Veterans at ASU are feeling welcomed, and not too overwhelmed by the transition out of the military life. I know it took me a few years to really get in the swing of things here at ASU, so I think it's incumbent upon us all to not leave any of our brothers or sisters behind.
So thank you all for a great year, I apologize for rambling on a bit, and I look forward to helping grow this amazing community!
