At 0900 hours on Wednesday, 4 March 2015, our agency bill, House Bill 2091-veterans; in-state tuition, is being heard in the Senate Committee on Public Safety, Military, and Technology in Senate Hearing Room 1.
Passage of HB 2091 is vital for veterans and their spouses/children who use the GI Bill in Arizona. The language in HB 2091 has been vetted and approved by the VA and once it passes and is signed into law by Governor Ducey, it will comply Arizona law with a federal law passed by Congress last year. Without this bill, veterans and their spouses/children will be unable to use the GI Bill at Arizona public institutions after 1 July 2015.
Forty-nine states have had to pass or are in the process of passing similar measures to comply.
I do not foresee a problem, but it would be good to have the visible support of our veterans organisations during the hearing. Seeing our veterans in the audience during such hearings makes a very positive impression on our state lawmakers. So, if you are able to attend, it will be appreciated.
(Remind me and I’ll let you know at the hearing which state did not need to do anything to comply.)
